Technical Assistance
Funded through a grant by HUD.
AHHA provides tenant organizing for qualified properties. Through training, education and networking we assist groups with the development of programs to support affordable housing and to end homelessness.
We work with community groups who are interested in getting involved in the solution to end homelessness. Community groups have a wealth of resources that have not been tapped we are committed to helping those groups get involved and to become part of the solution to Hawaiʻi’s homeless and housing crisis.
The Alliance assisted with the coordination and implementation of the Bridges Out of Poverty Workshop. The Workshop was extremely well attended by providers from across the State. Jodi Pfarr from Aha! Processing conducted the workshop for more than 150 individuals. During the lunch hour, the Deputy Director of the State Department of Human Services conducted a workshop on Hawaii issues in relation to poverty. Materials, including the Bridges Out of Poverty book were given to all attendees.
We continue to work with providers from across the State to meet their needs in regards to Technical Assistance. Following are some of the activities that are being planned:
• Provide Technical Assistance to providers of Shelter Plus Care programs and those agencies interested in implementing Shelter Plus Care programs.
• Develop homeless assistance programs web page on current hawaiihomeless.com website.
• Develop quarterly newsletter which will be made available via the internet and upon request.
• Conduct research on foster care programs to prevent homelessness once a foster child leaves the care of the State.
• Provide Technical Assistance to criminal justice system to assist with discharge planning in an effort to prevent homelessness upon release and in the future.
Other requests for Technical Assistance will be addressed as they arise and special emphasis will be placed on the needs of the insular areas including Guam, Commonwealth of the Mariana Islands and American Samoa.
